Dave signed up last-minute for DTS because his plans for a gap year in Europe fell through. He flew in from the Philippines to our Louisville campus, arriving a couple days late and jetlagging. The message that night was on surrendering to Jesus. Dave did. We didn't know until afterwards that he was a self-described agnostic – believing that if God existed at all, he was distant and unkind.
God turned Dave's life around in DTS. In South Africa he patiently ministered to Mano, a young kid from a pretty troubled family. Mano's dad was in jail, and when he wasn't he beat Mano and his mom. The whole community mocked Mano because of his dad's crimes, and he didn't always have enough food to eat.
Dave taught Mano that God is good and loves him deeply. He didn't just say the words, he showed it to him every day. What's crazy is that only a few months before, Dave hadn't even believed that himself.
Transformed lives transform nations. That's why I do what I do.
